About

Hello, and welcome to my blog!

My name is June Caskey and I am founder and director of the Caskey School of Music in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

I have been teaching music since I was fourteen years old, and, after about half a century, I still love it! In fact, I can honestly say that every lesson is an adventure for me whether I am teaching a young child who knows nothing about the piano or and adult who has always longed to play but never had the chance.

I am also happy to help people who want to improve their music reading skills, or their tone quality, or their comfort in playing, or any other of the numerous reasons a person may have for wanting to take piano lessons.

My intention for having a blog and a website is to share the many things that I have learned over the years that give me such joy in teaching.

I am sure I am not the only teacher who loves their work and I am also sure that there are many teachers who are often frustrated by lack of response in their students but have no idea what they might do to reverse that response.

If I can help just one of them I will feel the great pleasure that comes from sharing something of value.

I was fortunate enough to study with the great teacher, Karl Ulrich Schnabel. He was the son of Artur Schnabel, one of the great pianists of the twentieth century.

Even now, as I sit here at my computer writing to you I have his picture on the bookshelf in front of me. The inscription on it in his own hand writing says:

“To June Caskey – thinking with great joy and gratitude of our long and most successful cooperation.” Ruli – (Karl Ulrich Schnabel) 5 – 30 – 92

He wrote that during one of the times I brought him from New York to Hamilton to teach private lessons in my studio and to give masterclasses. It was he who finally completely opened for me the door to freedom of musical expression.
